A Texas lawmaker wants "Texit" secession on the ballot

Texas state Rep. Kyle Biedermann, a Republican, says he will introduce the bill for a referendum as early as this week on whether Texas should assert its independence from the United States.
The notion, which has been batted around Texas for generations, looms much larger now in the wake of the violence in the U.S. capital.
While baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election have sowed discord in the country, advocates of a Texit insist the effort is not about Trump.
It s being dismissed as a fringe phenomena, until the moment where it surprises everybody and becomes mainstream, said Richard Kreitner, a secession expert. I think it s going to be the story of the 2020s. ....

People want to secede. They want their places to get out of the places they are. If you’ve heard anyone on Cape Cod wanting to secede and be its own country or state, they better have good reasons. How could we go it alone without support from the feds and our Massachusetts?
Geology experts and climate change non-deniers believe our Cape may sink. Sinking into the ocean is not the same as succession. Succession is opting out, going it alone, being a new state or no state at all. Scary thought, but thousands of people want to do just that. Sinking isn’t elective, secession is. It doesn’t seem to matter to successionists or maybe they don’t know they can’t secede. After the Civil War, aka the War Between the States, the Supreme Court, in a Texas case, ruled no state can “unilaterally” secede. ....

Rush Limbaugh, conservative bigot and Medal of Freedom recipient, dropped a little bomb on his listeners the other day.
Bemoaning the fact that Republicans have not only lost the presidency but the culture wars as well, he said, “I actually think that we’re trending toward secession. I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? . There cannot be a peaceful coexistence of two completely different theories of life, theories of government, theories of how we manage our affairs.
