RANCHO SANTA FE (KUSI) – For the eighth year in a row, Helen Woodward Animal Center will celebrate the spectacular feats of superhero adopters by paying homage to Comic-Con International with a Pop Culture-themed Dog Cosplay event entitled PAWmicon.
Helen Woodward Animal Center is throwing a PAWmicon-themed Weekend including Pop-culture-named orphan pets, Comic-Con-themed giveaways, Photo opportunities, A Comic-themed Kid’s Craft for younger attendees, Rush Coffee Cart and Kona Ice for sweets and treats.

Two orphan pets have arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center and the pair are making a major impression. The 5-year-old Collie/Corgi blend named Nalani and the 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat named Sebastian are both nearly twice their ideal weight. Both were found wandering the streets in different areas of Southern California and both arrived via rescue partners. Now the Center hopes to find each of them a new home and a new fitness routine that will bring them health and happiness.
It cannot be argued that Nalani and Sebastian are bigtime adorable with loving personalities to match. Their extreme size, however, is causing both orphan pets severe discomfort. Nalani arrived weighing in at 74 pounds and Sebastian boasted a weight of 25 pounds. How they got to these sizes, which nearly doubles their ideal poundage, is a mystery but the challenges they are facing are evident. This pup is currently six pounds and will grow to be about 25 to 45 pounds.
A puppy is similar to having a newborn baby and needs a lot of time to grow to a more mature dog.
Her adoption fee is $525, including a microchip fee, and she is already female-spayed.
All pets adopted from Helen Woodward Animal Center have been spayed or neutered, have up-to-date vaccinations and microchip identification.
