KENNESAW, Ga. This week will offer the last chances for early voting in a state House race for a seat that represents much of the area in Cobb County between Marietta and Kennesaw.
Early voting in the special election for the House District 34 seat that was held by longtime Republican state Rep. Bert Reeves will conclude on Friday, June 11. Election day itself is Tuesday, June 15. ....

Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation Monday overhauling Georgia’s citizen’s arrest law to greatly limit who can detain criminal suspects beyond on-duty police officers.
Enactment of the bill sponsored by former state Rep. Bert Reeves, R-Marietta, and co-sponsored by Savannah-area Rep. Carl Gilliard, D-Garden City, marks the most high-profile bill on criminal justice to clear the 2021 legislative session following last summer’s nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is expected to sign Monday a bill repealing the state’s citizen’s arrest law.
Kemp will hold a bill signing ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Georgia State Capitol.
In March, Georgia lawmakers gave final passage to the bill, which was one of the top legislative priorities this session in the aftermath of the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, who would have celebrated his 27th birthday on Saturday. ....

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has set June 15 special elections to replace two Republican state House members who have resigned.
Greg Morris of Vidalia resigned from District 156, which covers all of Montgomery and Toombs counties and parts of Appling and Jefferson Davis counties after fellow lawmakers elected him to the state Transportation Board. Bert Reeves of Marietta resigned from House District 34, which covers parts of central and northern Cobb County, to go to work for Georgia Tech. ....
