The Tirupur north all-woman police arrested a 24-year-old farmer on Friday for marrying a 17-year-old girl. Two women matchmakers, who arranged the minor girl’s marriage at Dharapuram on June 28, were also arrested. The arrested were identified as R Sasikumar, 24, and two matchmakers S Ambika, 39, from Thattankuttai near Perumanallur, and N Vallinayagam, 38, from Guruvayurappan Nagar in Tirupur. ChildLine (1098) members received information about the minor girl’s marriage and conducted an inquiry. Meanwhile, social welfare department officer Sivakami, 55, lodged a complaint with the Tirupur north all-woman police on Friday. Police registered an FIR and arrested Sasikumar for marrying the minor girl and he was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The trio was remanded in judicial custody. ....
Coimbatore: Three men were killed in an accident involving a moped and a motorcycle on Karukkankattupudur flyover near Perumanallur in Tirupur district late Monday night. The deceased were identified as R Gopikannan, 38, of Kulandai Nagar at Kadayampatti South in Salem, V Tamilselvan, 22, and his friend S Bhoominathan, 20, both from Kaliyapuram near Perumanallur in Tirupur district. Tamilselvan and Bhoominathan were working in a garment factory. Police said Gopikannan was on his way to Coimbatore from Salem in a moped. When he reached Karukkankattupudur flyover, Gopikannan was thrown off the moped after he lost control of it and hit the median. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. ....

Explanation sought from private hospital Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Following a petition alleging that a private hospital in Perumanallur had discharged a COVID-19 patient in a critical condition and collected over ₹19 lakh as treatment fees from the patient’s relatives, the Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services of Tiruppur district issued a notice demanding an explanation for the alleged lapses. In a letter on Tuesday, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services G. Shanthi ordered the hospital located on Kovai Main Road in Perumanallur, near Avinashi, to not admit any new COVID-19 patients till further orders from the district administration and to provide treatment for the existing patients “without giving room for any complaints.” ....
