It s known as The Spot at Oak Openings Preserve metropark in Swanton and visitors say there s more to it than just the beautiful scenery.

Actors Collaborative Toledo will present “Natural Shocks,” by Lauren Gunderson, at the Toledo Rep Theatre Feb. 5-7.
Inspired by the words of Hamlet’s “To be or not to be” soliloquy, Gunderson’s “Natural Shocks” is 60-minute, one-woman tour-de-force play that features Angela, who’s waiting out an approaching tornado in her basement. She brims over with quirks, stories, and confessions. As the real danger grows imminent, she reveals a final secret that brings the reality of guns in America into sharp focus. ....

'Metroparks After Dark' events offer evening hiking and biking across the area

TOLEDO, Ohio Bikers and hikers, here s your chance to get in an after-work trip through the top metroparks in the nation.
Metroparks Toledo kickstarted Metroparks After Dark for 2021 with three activities at parks across the greater Toledo area.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays until March 10, hikers can take a walk through the trails at a time when the parks are usually closed. The after-dark hikes are from 5 to 8 p.m. and are dog-friendly, with the exception of the Toledo Botanical Garden hike on Jan. 19.
Hikers are encouraged to bring a buddy and bring a flashlight or wear headlamps. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended and the hikes will take place regardless of weather. Hikers must follow social distancing guidelines. ....

Odds are, you’re still hunkered down – more or less homebound.
Travel for most of us is still in the future, but with vaccines on the way there is the promise that things will return to some sense of normal in the not-too-distant future.
In the meantime, consider this. Instead of bringing visitors into your home, invite them to your yard. Establish or improve an existing wildlife feeding station outside your windows. It’s guaranteed the birds, squirrels and other wildlife that it attracts will bring action into your view. ....

There’s “Snow Place Like Metroparks” for a fun winter escape. Visitors to the New Glass City Metropark in East Toledo will find a display of more than 100 decorated Snow People displayed along the road for a drive-through experience. (Photo courtesy of Metroparks Toledo)
Metroparks Toledo volunteers have decorated cutouts of snowmen to add cheer to the winter and welcome visitors to the new Glass City Metropark in East Toledo. The display continues through Jan. 18.
“Snow Place Like Metroparks” includes more than 100 decorated Snow People displayed along the park road for a drive-through experience. Visitors should use the Morrison Street entrance off Front Street and follow the road, exiting on E. Broadway to Front. ....
