Winner of May 18 primary likely to go on to lead Doylestown Borough

Democratic voters in Doylestown Borough will likely decide who becomes the next mayor in the May 18 primary. Borough Council Vice Chairwoman Noni West, former Rider University professor Judith  Fraivillig, and children’s musician and author Larissa “Lolly” Hopwood are all running for the Nov. 2 ballot spot. No Republican is running this year, which means whoever cinches the Democratic nomination next week will run unopposed six months from now. While West has the most experience in local governance with 12 years as an elected councilwoman, all the three candidates have said the job would come with a learning curve if elected. All three candidates met in an online forum hosted by the Doylestown Democrats to answer questions on various community issues.

INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL PRAISE POLICE CHIEF, CLEANUP EFFORT

INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL PRAISE POLICE CHIEF, CLEANUP EFFORT By Hometown2 Apr 20, 2021 8:39 PM At Tuesday night’s meeting, Indiana Borough Council praised the Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl for his pro-active approach concerning police relations in the community and dealing with racism. The chief was praised for his efforts on those issues since he was promoted to chief, according to Donald Lancaster, and for his efforts in keeping in communication with the citizens of Indiana County, especially in stressful times.  He said that Schawl has been, in his words, way ahead of the game. Schawl was also praised for his recent community outreach effort by scheduling meetups with the public both on Zoom video chat and in-person at Cafe Amadeus.  Chief Schawl cancelled Tuesday night’s zoom meet up and Wednesday morning’s meet at Cafe Amadeus out of respect of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial in Minneapolis.
