There is no place that encapsulates Watford s past and present more than the town s museum - and it celebrates its 40th birthday today.
Housed in the former offices of Benskins Brewery, the museum was opened by Terry Scott on March 14, 1981 when he was at the peak of his fame in the sitcom Terry and June.
Born in Watford and educated close to the site of the museum at Watford Fields Junior School and Watford Grammar School for Boys, the late actor and comedian was the ideal choice to perform of the opening of what is now a Visit England accredited museum. ....

Chess In The COVID Era

Since its inception in August 2012, the Webster University chess team has ranked number one in Division I college chess. Earlier this year, the team won the 2021 Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship, the foremost college chess tournament in the Americas. 
Though the team is no stranger to that competition — of the nine years they’ve entered, they’ve won eight — 2021 presented its own challenges. With the coronavirus pandemic still raging across the country, this year’s training and tournament were conducted entirely online. ....

Firstsite s The Great Big Art Exhibition invites the UK public to get creative
Running until the end of April, the UK is encouraged to draw, sculpt and paint to themes set fortnightly by artists such as Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Jeremy Deller, David Shrigley and Ai Weiwei.

With more time on our hands now is a perfect time to get creative, something that The Great Big Art Exhibition – launched on 28 January – aims to inspire. People across the UK are invited to take part in a collaborative exhibition that sees the nation encouraged to draw, sculpt, paint and build their own piece of art and to stick up on their window, or any part of their house for that matter. Running until April 2021, a selection of renowned artists are set to choose a different theme each fortnight. First, it’s Antony Gormley who’s opened the show with a theme of animals.
