Ontario to bring more reliable internet to more First Nation Communities


Ontario is investing $10.9 million to bring quicker broadband to various towns in First Nation communities across Northern Ontario.
Additionally, the province will invest in improved internet access to bridge the digital divide and create more economic opportunities for both residents and businesses in these communities.
“Now more than ever, residents in Northern Ontario and across the province need access to faster, more reliable broadband service,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure, in the press release. “Our investments will make it easier for people to work and learn from home, run their businesses, access vital services and connect with others.”
Ontario’s $10.9 million investment is aimed to build the infrastructure that brings high-speed broadband to areas in Chisholm, Marathon, Terrace Bay, rural Thunder Bay and Oliver Paipoonge. Additionally, it will construct a new 22-kilometre fibre backbone network that brings high-speed to Seine River ....

Province investing $10.9 million to bring faster internet to Northern Ontario


THUNDER BAY - The provincial government is investing more than $10 million to bring broadband internet to remote First Nation communities and Northern Ontario, including rural areas around Thunder Bay.
In a release issued Wednesday, the province said it is investing $10.9 million to bridge the digital divide in the north.
“Now more than ever, residents in Northern Ontario and across the province need access to faster, more reliable broadband service, said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. Our investments will make it easier for people to work and learn from home, run their businesses, access vital services and connect with others.

The province is planning to spend nearly $11 million to improve internet access across northern Ontario.
The funding was announced on Wednesday, which the province said will upgrade internet quality for up to 7,000 households and businesses.
The Ontario government previously said it would spend $680 million on upgrading and expanding broadband and cellular access across the province. That money was announced in November, 2020. ....

Treaty Three Police, OPP investigate suspicious death in Couchiching First Nation

Treaty Three Police, with assistance from Rainy River OPP, are investigating a suspicious death in Couchiching First Nation.
Police said officers and Rainy River District EMS paramedics were dispatched to a residence on Rainy Lake Boulevard in the community on Dec. 25, with reports of a domestic assault with a weapon.
Three victims with superficial injuries were found at the scene, as was an unresponsive 41-year-old man, police said. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have identified the deceased as Randall Morrison of Big Grassy First Nation. ....
