Rogers Named To The Bowerman Post-Conference Championships Watch List

NEW ORLEANS – Camryn Rogers was named to The Bowerman 2021 Post-Conference Championships Watch List, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday.
It s the first time in California track & field history, man or woman, that a Golden Bear has been named to The Bowerman Watch List. Rogers is the only thrower on the current women s watch list and is one of three athletes from the Pac-12, along with USC s Twanisha (TeeTee) Terry and Anna Cockrell.
Rogers, from Richmond, British Columbia, currently leads the NCAA in the women s hammer throw, boasting a personal best mark of 73.09 meters (239-9) to pass the Olympic standard which she set on April, 17 at the West Coast Classic in Eugene, Oregon. ....

With three invitationals remaining in the outdoor season, Cal track and field has nothing left to lose. The three remaining meets the Pac-12 championships, NCAA West Regionals and the NCAA Outdoor Championships are opportunities for the Bears to showcase the fruits of their spring training.
Any level of accomplishment this season would knock the last year out of the park, barring any pandemic-related cancellations. The idea that Cal has a postseason to speak of is one to be celebrated.
Senior Josh Johnson, who is ranked No. 10 in the nation in the shot put event, relishes this year’s postseason prospects. The progress he’s made in his time with Cal is astounding starting with his very first mark of 16.89 meters in the shot put, he’s moved to a current career-best of 19.88 meters. ....

Victor Espinoza and Brian Beach, who reached pinnacles in racing others can only dream about, have parted company.
The Hall of Fame jockey and his agent of eight years went their separate ways Saturday morning after Espinoza informed Beach he is eager for more business which the 58-year-old agent, through no fault of his own, presently is limited in generating.
Through Saturday, Espinoza had only 37 mounts this meet, winning four races with five seconds and seven thirds, good for purse earnings of $365,844.
“It s tough; it s not easy,” said Espinoza, who turns 49 on May 23. “We had great success together and we were a good team. I missed a lot of time because of injuries and the pandemic, but now I m healthy and want to win more races.” ....

Across the Bay and about an hour’s drive from the UC Berkeley campus is that of the blue and gold’s archrival, Stanford. The rivalry between the Bears and Cardinal has been long running, with the annual “Big Game” determining who holds bragging rights and possession of the axe for the year to follow. Unfortunately for Cal, the 2020 axe belongs to Stanford and the Bears football team must wait patiently until fall for a chance to redeem itself.
The Stanford-UC Berkeley rivalry is decades strong and extends well beyond the sport of football. Chemists at both universities race against each other to see who can discover more elements. Both schools boast a prime location for techies, given their proximity to the Silicon Valley. The contention is part of both schools’ cultures.
