Pensacola Confederate monument lawsuit heading to mediation

Pensacola and several groups that sued the city last year to stop the removal of the Confederate monument will hold mediation to attempt to settle the ongoing lawsuit over the monument s removal.
The Ladies Memorial Association, the Stephen Mallory Camp 1315 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Save Our Southern Heritage Florida Chapter, Veterans Monuments of America and others sued the city last year after the City Council voted to remove the 129-year-old monument.
A federal judge ruled in September that the groups lack standing to sue the city over the monument s removal, and the city took down the 50-foot column and statue in October. ....

Pensacola City Council OKs West Main Master Plan tax rebate program


The Pensacola City Council on Monday night unanimously approved a new tax incentive program under the city s Community Redevelopment Agency for development projects in the city s Waterfront Redevelopment District.
The new program allows developers to claim a tax rebate on new property tax revenue generated by a project that meets the program s criteria.
To qualify, a development has to create $40 million in taxable value to a property and meet other financial requirements, including having 10% of the value of the project committed to affordable or workforce housing, before it could be considered by the CRA.
The tax rebates under the program would be limited to 10% of any project s total development cost. ....
