Scottish independence supporters should pay close attention to Tory tactics


IT should neither be a secret nor a surprise that the UK Government is actively trying to prevent Scottish independence. Their campaign never really stopped after 2014, even if ours did.
It certainly didn’t stop despite their protestations that people shouldn’t be discussing constitutional affairs during Brexit and a pandemic (the former being the creation of the UK Government and the latter greatly exacerbated by their failure to deal with it).
With news this week that they are ramping up their efforts to dissuade Scotland from leaving, we in the pro-independence campaign should take note of what we’re seeing and certainly should not dismiss those moves even if they appear to us to be awkward, ineffective or outright laughable. After all, first if we ignore them, then only laugh at them, we might forget to fight them, and then they’ll win. ....

There are multiple French cities which could need to be placed under local lockdown restrictions, the French health minister has said.
At least some local measures will be needed in Nice and the surrounding areas amid the rapid spread of coronavirus, Olivier Veran told reporters this morning.
Mr Veran said that decisions on the further regulations deemed necessary will be taken today and tomorrow, and insisted that a local lockdown in Nice was a possibility . ....

Lockdown until daily cases drop below one thousand
Are we nearly there yet? Not quite. We understand that lockdown is unlikely to be eased significantly until daily Covid cases are in the hundreds, compared to more than 10,000 a day now. On Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to publish an exit plan to end restrictions in England, starting with the reopening of schools from March 8. But he is unlikely to commit to a clear timetable for the coming months, instead promising a series of reviews which would defer the reopening of shops, pubs and restaurants until cases reach a low not seen since August.
