April 07, 2021 - 10:52 AM One person has died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital following an outbreak of COVID-19. There are now 13 cases connected to the outbreak that was declared March 31, on the Level 3 Surgical Unit. According to an Interior Health media release, nine patients and four staff members are currently infected. Interior Health is reminding the public Vernon Jubilee Hospital remains safe to attend appointments and emergency care. The health authority asks for people to continue with any scheduled procedures and self-isolation or COVID-19 testing is not required after visiting the hospital. Patients entering the hospital must wear medical masks, which will be provided. ....

The Canadian Special Operations Forces Command will be flying CH-146 Griffon helicopters during training practice close to Vernon and Kamloops starting tomorrow, April 7. The choppers will be operating mainly between 9:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. until Apr. 23. Residents in the area may see and hear helicopters performing multiple low-level flights with the potential for increased local noise. Military small arms and training ammunition will be utilized and will be closely controlled in accordance with mandated safety measures, the Canadian Armed Forces said in a media release. ....

According to a Kelowna RCMP media release, the theft of Shayla took place at roughly 7 p.m. April 3 in the 1500 block of Banks Road. RCMP say Shayla s owner tied the eight-pound black and grey Havanese to a tree outside of a restaurant while he went inside and picked up food. RCMP do not identify the business. However, when he returned Shayla was gone. RCMP report witnesses saw two unidentified women in a black passenger car had stopped and allegedly stole the dog. ....
April 06, 2021 - 7:00 AM A B.C. real estate law firm is on the hook for $75,000 after it gave a Brazilian client shoddy advice about the foreign buyers tax. In what the judge described as an unfortunate sequence of events Brazilian national Carolina Tellini was left to pay the foreign buyer tax because real estate law firm Bell Alliance failed to tell her about her options. According to a March 26, B.C. Supreme Court decision, Tellini and her husband moved to Canada in 2015 and bought a house in North Vancouver prior to the foreign buyers tax coming into place. However, the following year the couple separated and Tellini organized with her bank to have the mortgage and property ownership transferred solely into her name. She then contacted conveyancing firm Bell Alliance to help her with the transaction. ....
