District, NAACP react to reported fight at North Penn High School

TOWAMENCINÂ â An online video of a fight at North Penn High School has drawn reactions from across Montgomery County and triggered an investigation by local police.
The North Penn School District and the Ambler branch of the NAACP released statements Wednesday referring to the fight, which allegedly took place Tuesday afternoon in the high school cafeteria.
The North Penn School District is committed to ensuring a safe and equitable learning experience for all students, while developing a respect for diversity and appreciation of human differences. Any student behaviors that do not abide by these principles will not be tolerated, said the district in a statement posted Wednesday. ....

North Penn High School students to talk race, religion Friday in response to fight

TOWAMENCINÂ â In response to a fight at North Penn High School and the resulting community response, the school district is giving students chances to react starting Friday.
The district announced late Thursday afternoon that Friday, May 7 will bring what the district termed our first step in healing for high school students to discuss their thoughts regarding race, culture, religion, and relationships among students in a safe and open manner with school and district administration.
Those discussions will be held during periods four through seven at the high school on Friday, and next steps will involve further conversations with district families and the broader community, according to the district statement, which notes that specifics regarding the May 4 incident cannot be discussed due to privacy laws. ....

An investigation is underway after a Muslim teenager from Montgomery County accused two other girls of attacking her and ripping off her hijab at school due to her religion.
“What they did was disgusting and horrible and it was a hate crime literally. That’s it,” Sanaa Beaufort told NBC10. “That’s all we’ve got to call it.”

Beaufort, a 16-year-old junior and student ambassador at North Penn High School, told NBC10 two other girls attacked her Tuesday inside the school. Beaufort claimed one of the girls aggressively approached her and bumped her as she stepped out of the bathroom. As she took a defensive stance, a fight broke out and another girl jumped in, according to Beaufort. Beaufort said the girls ripped off her hijab, her religious head covering, during the fight. ....
