Substance abuse, suicide and depression touch most people in one way or the other in this modern world and all three have grown exponentially in an isolating year of pandemic.
Highlighting local outreach and solidarity around the pain of these mental health issues, the fifth annual Walk for Hope was held April 17 in Culpeper’s Yowell Meadow Park following a yearlong reprieve due to COVID.
About 150 people signed up for the Long family of Rapidan’s “Living the Dream Foundation” event. Many wore Living the Dream cloth face masks colored blue for “support the cause” and white, signifying loss of a child. ....

Richmond have snapped a two-game losing streak in style and left a wasteful St Kilda in their wake with a brilliant 86-point win at Docklands Stadium.
St Kilda led at quarter-time and dominated the second term but failed to make their early weight of possession count, with Richmond nudging their way to a four-goal lead at halftime and ruthlessly kicking on to batter the Saints 20.14 (134) to 7.6 (48).
Silky Tigers midfielder Shane Edwards (29 touches) and Jack Graham (17 disposals, 12 tackles and three goals) were ever-present and Dustin Martin (34 touches) worked through a slow start to assert himself on the match, while Jack Riewoldt kicked five goals. ....

Michael Ray Johnston, 64, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died February 22. Born July 3, 1956, in Charlotte, he graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1974. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, North Carolina, in 1978 and a Master of Music degree in church music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, in 1980. After piano study with Flora Neely and vocal study as a teenager with Harvey L. Woodruff, he studied voice with Julie Fortney and William Thomas at Mars Hill and Marvin Keenze at Westminster. His organ study was with Donna Robertson at Mars Hill and William Hays at Westminster, and conducting studies were with Joel Stegall at Mars Hill and Joseph Flummerfelt at Westminster. ....
