January 18, 2021 Nominations are being sought for the 2021 Brighton Area Womenâs History Roll of Honor. Since 2003 the Roll of Honor has recognized women who have achieved prominence or significantly contributed to the Brighton community while having lived, worked, or been affiliated with the area for an extended period of time. Honorees have demonstrated distinctive accomplishments that hold an endearing nature to social, cultural, economic, or political well-being of the community. Brighton Area Women s History Roll of Honor Secretary/Treasurer Beth Walker says that over the past 18 years, they have recognized 103 women and 8 Athletic Championship Honorees. The group includes 10 military veterans, two of the first women in Michigan to vote, and 37 graduates of Brighton High School. Walker was a guest on a recent edition of WHMI s Viewpoint. ....
CHARLESTON – William R. “Bill” Wooton has been sworn into office for a 12-year-term on the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. The ceremony took place December 30. Wooton was elected June 9 to replace Justice Margaret Workman, who retires December 31. His term officially begins January 1. “My aspiration as a Justice is to emulate the truly outstanding work of Justice Workman,” Wooton said. “It’s an honor to join the Court.” The oath of office was delivered by Justice John Hutchison, a fellow Raleigh County native, who said Wooton is intelligent, easy to work with and dedicated. “I am convinced that Bill will be a fantastic addition to the court,” Hutchison said. ....

(Photo Provided) CHARLESTON Justice Evan Jenkins, the incoming chief justice of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals for 2021, said there was still work to do to restore faith in the judicial branch but the court is heading in a good direction. “We’re going to get off the bench and get out into the public to not only share with public the reforms we put in place, but to reassure them that our commitment will continue and our work is not done,” Jenkins said in a phone interview talking about his goals for the next year. ....
RESIDENTS in a county village are outraged over irresponsible car drivers splashing pedestrians with water in drive-by ‘attacks’. People living in Callow End, which is half way between Worcester and Malvern, posted on the Callow End Village Noticeboard to talk of their disgust at being targeted by reckless drivers, as water covers road surfaces after heavy rain and snow.
