UMATILLA COUNTY â Umatilla County saw a sharp uptick in COVID-19 immunizations last week, as 2,559 county residents reportedly received the vaccine over a seven-day span between Jan. 22 and Jan. 29, according to data from the Oregon Health Authority. Thatâs the largest jump in inoculations since efforts began in the county in late December 2020. After health care workers began formally immunizing residents on Dec. 28, 2020, it took the county 18 days to report a higher total than last weekâs, according to OHA data. In addition, 986 people have now received their second âboosterâ dose, fully immunizing them against coronavirus. The outdoor events are planned to take place at the Pendleton Convention Center on Thursday, Jan. 28, and the parking lot of Hermiston High School on Friday, Jan. 29, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents from Phase 1a who have yet to receive the vaccine are also eligible to be immunized at the events, according to Joe Fiumara, the countyâs public health director. âWe are in communication with all school districts (including private schools) asking them to prioritize 25% of their staff to send to the events,â Fiumara said. âWe ask that they prioritize based on special education and elementary educators, and those that work directly with children.â ....
