Record-breaking Pender County rezoning request: 750 homes and a concerned neighborhood

PENDER COUNTY A 35-house neighborhood is the sticking point for a 300-acre rezoning request, and the 750-home development to follow, in Pender County.

Pender County courthouse Hurricane Florence restoration delayed again

In September 2018, driving rain and flooding from Hurricane Florence walloped the Pender County Courthouse in Burgaw, causing major water damage.
Now, more than two years later, the 84-year old courthouse is still closed and the ongoing restoration has hit a new snag.
At their Monday board meeting, the Pender County Board of Commissioners approved a contract extension that pushes the restoration’s final completion date from Jan. 26 to March 19. The board of commissioners also approved paying Thomas Construction, the contractor completing the work, more than $19,600 for the extension.
The delay stems from a COVID-19-related lag in receiving doors ordered for the courthouse. ....
