What suburban colleges plan to do with latest COVID-19 relief funds

Suburban community colleges set to receive millions of dollars more in federal COVID-19 relief funding in the coming months are stepping up efforts to help students in need with tuition costs and other expenses, as well as using the money to mitigate the pandemic s impact on their budgets.
The American Rescue Plan authorized in March provides more than $36 billion in emergency grants, including $10 billion to community colleges, $2.6 billion to historically Black colleges and universities, and $6 billion to Hispanic- and other minority-serving institutions. Illinois share is about $1.26 billion.
 
Public and private colleges and universities can use the funds to support students with exceptional needs, including unexpected expenses, such as job loss, food or housing insecurity and transportation, provide academic or mental health supports, discharge debts, and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. ....

Hospital hosts expecting Veterans baby shower
VA Northern Indiana is committed to providing high-quality services in a sensitive and safe environment for all female Veterans. On May 24, we celebrated the Women’s Health Clinic and their expecting mothers with a baby shower.
Anna Shelton, Congressman Jim Bank’s Office; an expecting Veteran, Kasandra Johnson, Women’s Program Manager; and Luther Green, Chief of Voluntary Service.
The Maternity Care Program coordinates maternity care for eligible female Veterans between VA and maternity care providers in the community. The program follows these Veterans throughout their pregnancy and into the postpartum period, coordinating their care during the pregnancy. ....

Northeast-10 Conference Woman and Man of the Year awards, both of which are selected by the league s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) Council.
Each nominee is a senior student-athlete that has excelled in all areas of their collegiate careers, on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The two respective winners are set to be announced from a group of three finalists, and honored as part of a virtual event streamed via NE10 NOW on Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. The 2020-21academic year marks the ninth year in which a Man of the Year will be named, while the NE10 Woman of the Year has been awarded since 2006 and will be put forth as the Conference s official NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. ....

Ruth Anderson helped bring women into the federal government. She died at 93.

For as long as her granddaughters can remember, Ruth Anderson was working on her book.
“Mom would say, I don’t know that she’s ever gonna get her book done,” said granddaughter Elizabeth Spencer.
But at 88, Mrs. Anderson did. Her book,
Whistleblower and Double Agents, was “straight out of a James Bond movie,” the
Citrus County Chroniclereported in 2017. “It’s chock-full of intrigue, suspense, romance and action. And it all rings true because many of the events actually happened during her days at the NRC.” ....
