City of London starts to reopen as Government eases lockdown restrictions
What is city talk?
The City of London Corporation has today (12 April) announced a string of events across the Square Mile, which will mark the reopening of some of its most iconic institutions and businesses, including non-essential retail, outdoor hospitality and leisure.
As the Government’s roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions in England reaches its second step, Lord Mayor of London William Russell and Policy Chair of the City of London Corporation Catherine McGuinness will be showing their support for local businesses. This will include visits to the Royal Exchange, One New Change, Bloomberg Arcade, Bow Lane, Middlesex Street and Petticoat Lane, which are set to reopen this week. ....

Relieved retailers lift their shutters for the first time since Christmas Eve; waves crash ever so gently against the glistening beach pebbles; and the internet-famous goats can be heard from afar.
It’s a surprisingly mild morning in Llandudno as I legally saunter along its palm tree-lined promenade that – like many others – I’ve yearned to revisit. In its summer pomp, North Beach and the adorning pier throngs with Midlanders like myself who regularly pop across the border for a dose of vitamin sea. Early this morning, it’s mostly local dog walkers and runners scattered along the seafront… though, I imagine many back home are packing up their cars ....

Brian Hanley

During July 1921 Count George Noble Plunkett, Dáil minister for foreign affairs, wrote a long letter to Éamon de Valera. In it Plunkett warned the Sinn Féin leader that republicans should be wary of too close a relationship with ‘the Jews’.
Across Europe, Plunkett asserted, Jews had been a negative influence, because (1) they are, and will remain, aliens, in most countries; (2) their codes of honour and morals are not Christian; (3) that in business and otherwise, they act together, throughout a country (and even from one nation to another, at times) like Freemasons; (4) that a benefactor to their poor can influence their votes, through their Rabbi; (5) that, as an Orangeman’s religion is commonly hatred of the Pope, so the Debased Jews, when they lose their faith, retain a racial antagonism to Christia ....

Ringing the changes: Northern Ireland businesses adapt to help anxious brides plan their wedding day

Wedding retailers have pulled together to make services available to couples planning their nuptials in lockdown.
Brides and grooms-to-be are now looking to move ahead with wedding plans despite the inability of bridal boutiques and jewellers to fully reopen due to coronavirus restrictions.
Rebecca Bryson, the owner of Curvy Chic Bridal in Belfast, is addressing the problem by offering virtual appointments, at-home try-on services and sale dresses on her website.
It s not the exact same experience but we try to make it as nice as possible, she said.
It is a similar situation with other retailers.
Jewellery designer Mairi Burrow is also offering an at-home wedding ring service for couples getting married. ....
