Bedford Planning Commission seat remains open
Bedford Township’s Planning Commission remains one member short after Supervisor Paul Pirrone’s sixth attempt to fill the vacant seat failed to reach a vote during the township board of trustees’ meeting on Tuesday.
Pirrone’s latest nominee was Michael Smith, a longtime Bedford resident who served for 15 years on the Bedford Public Schools Board of Education and who is currently the Sergeant At Arms for the Monroe/Lenawee County AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.
“Mr. Smith has demonstrated his board leadership skills having served on the Bedford Public Schools Board for 15 years and the Work Force Development Board,” Pirrone said. “In addition, he has served on many community projects through his work in Monroe County. Mr. Smith has served his community not only in the past, but is looking to serve Bedford once again.”

“His historical knowledge of the city was tremendous,” said Bedford Planning Director Brandon Woodward. Jacobs served both as president on the Bedford Historic Review Board and Bedford Planning Commission.
“His input and concern for the city were greatly appreciated and he will be greatly missed,” added Woodward.
“I have a good life and enjoyed every minute of it,” Jacob commented to a WBIW reporter in February 2020.
Mr. Jacobs became owner of Bedford Furniture Galleries when he purchased the store from his father in 1969.
