Family of woman killed by Arlington, Texas police in 2019 sue city, officer for wrongful death
The family of Margarita “Maggie” Brooks filed a wrongful death lawsuit last Thursday seeking $1 million in damages and for medical and funeral costs against the city of Arlington, Texas. They are also suing former police officer Ravinder Singh, who killed 30-year-old Brooks on August 1, 2019 while ostensibly attempting to shoot her dog, which ran to him during a welfare check on the woman.

Brooks, who was homeless, was asleep in the grass when Singh approached her and shouted for her to restrain her dog, then preceded to recklessly fire three rounds at the approaching dog. Brooks can be heard exclaiming on bodycam footage after having been shot once in the chest, “Oh my God! Police shot me!” After shooting her, Singh ordered Brooks: “ma’am get a hold of your dog.” She later died in the hospital. ....

Attorney Ben Crump among three commencement speakers at FAMU

The Thomasville, Georgia native earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business from FAMU, a master’s degree in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas School of Law’s Graduate Program in Agricultural Law, and a law degree from the University of Florida.
Freeman earned her bachelor’s degree and MBA in finance from FAMU’s School of Business & Industry in 2005 and a second MBA from Harvard Business School in 2010.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, July 31, she will address graduates of School of Business & Industry, College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health and the School of Environment graduates. ....

An intimate ceremony at Minneapolis Shiloh Temple on Monday marked the life and death of Leneal Frazier, a 40-year-old Black man who died this month after a police squad car struck his vehicle during a high-speed chase.
The funeral drew friends and family from as far as Frazier s hometown of St. Louis, Mo., along with civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump and relatives of George Floyd, a Black man murdered last year by a former Minneapolis police officer. ....

On July 6, a memorial service for Hunter Brittain was held at Beebe High School in central Arkansas. Present at the memorial service were Benjamin Crump and Devon Jacob, the attorneys for the family of George Floyd, alongside the racialist political charlatan Reverend Al Sharpton.
Brittain, a 17-year-old white youth, was gunned down by since-fired Lonoke County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Davis, while Brittain was attempting to place a blue antifreeze canister behind his truck tire to prevent it from rolling back into Davis’ squad car during a traffic stop. According to eye-witness and friend Jordan King, the deputy issued no commands prior to opening fire. ....
