BENGALURU: The first non-stop Bengaluru-US flight inaugurated in January, connecting the city and San Francisco, has been temporarily grounded following poor patronage as a result of the lockdown in Karnataka due to the pandemic.
Aviation sources said Air India may resume the flight operation from June 10. The flight was inaugurated on January 11 this year with an all-woman crew, including four pilots, operating it to the Kempegowda International Airport. The return flight left Bengaluru the following day with 220 passengers.
Second wave of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown have left the aviation industry in a crisis. While limited domestic travel continues, international flights have been restricted to air bubbles between Indian and other countries. The US, among other nations, initially restricted and subsequently banned flights from India with an increase in daily fresh Covid cases in April and May.
