Sharad Pawar To Work For Unity Of Opposition Parties: Maharashtra Nationalist Congress Party's Nawab Malik


Nationalist Congress Party said Sharad Pawar was trying to unite the opposition even before Bengal polls.

Against the backdrop of the results of the West Bengal assembly polls in which the Trinamool Congress romped home by defeating its close challenger the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today said its chief Sharad Pawar will try to form a united front of opposition parties, especially of regional outfits.
NCP national spokesman and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik referred to the statement of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee who reportedly said that the unity of the Opposition is necessary.
Sharad Pawar was also trying to unite all opposition parties before the Bengal elections. In the next few days, Pawar will work for the unity of opposition parties, especially of regional parties, Mr Malik said. ....

NEW DELHI: After the BJP and the CPM, the Congress also condemned the post-poll violence in West Bengal by the TMC cadres, saying such incidents were unacceptable and people of the state have not voted for lawlessness.
Congress s West Bengal incharge Jitin Prasada alleged on Tuesday that his party cadres were attacked by Trinamool Congress workers and even women and children were not spared.
The post-poll violence that has been unleashed by the TMC on the Congress workers is unacceptable. Even women and children are not spared. I m sure the people of West Bengal did not vote for this lawlessness, Prasad said on Twitter. ....

The final tally of the West Bengal Assembly election results indicates that the Trinamool Congress has won 213 seats. This is its highest tally in the House. In terms of vote share, it has registered an all-time high of 47.9% votes. In 2016, it won 211 seats and registered a vote share of 44.9%. ....

West Bengal Assembly Elections: Nandigram Official Said Recounting Order May Risk Life, Says Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee


Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the counting of votes in Nandigram was not above board.
Mamata Banerjee, who has won Bengal but lost the battle for Nandigram to her former aide-turned-BJP rival Suvendu Adhikari, claimed today that the election officer who oversaw counting in the constituency was threatened.
The Returning Officer of Nandigram had told somebody a recounting order could risk his life, Ms Banerjee told reporters.
Ms Banerjee lost the Nandigram election to Suvendu Adhikari by a little over 1,700 votes after a day of counting that ended close to midnight.
She and her Trinamool Congress have alleged that the counting of votes was not above board. Demands for a recount were turned down by the election officer. ....
