PURCELLVILLE, Va. Catoctin Creek Distilling Co., The Virginia Rye Whisky ?, is excited to triple its capacity with a $1 million distillery production upgrade. Delayed due to COVID-19, expansion plans have been well underway for over a year and are set to be finalized in late June.
“As we continue to grow Catoctin Creek as a national brand, we must ensure we have enough whisky inventory to support future demand,” said co-founder and general manager Scott Harris. “This equipment expansion will guarantee our production capacity keeps up with sales for the next few years, at least.” ....

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has directed the Food and Drug Administration to cease plans to levy a $14,060 fee on craft distillers who produced hand sanitizer during the coronavirus pandemic.
Small businesses who stepped up to fight COVID-19 should be applauded by their government, not taxed for doing so. This month, the Food and Drug Administration reportedly slapped hundreds of distilleries with an unexpected fee of more than $14,000 because they produced hand sanitizer in the early days of the pandemic. Keep in mind: Craft distillers across the country began producing sanitizer because the United States was facing a massive shortage as panicked shoppers bought hand soap, cleaning wipes, and other sanitation products in bulk. Now, they’re being punished for helping consumers and healthcare workers during their time of need. ....
