The Lafayette Parish Sheriffâs Office is supporting a grant to bolster mental health services initiatives.
LPSO says the grant would help further its collaboration with Beacon Community Connections which is a community integrated health network.
According to a release Beacon Community Connections is applying for the Administration for Community Living s No Wrong Door Community Infrastructure Grant: Scaling Network Lead Entities.
The goal of the partnership between LPSO and the Beacon Network is to deliver coordinated health and social services in an integrated and person-centered manner, they say. ....

Week of April 10 sees small rise in unemployment claims

The week of April 10 saw a small increase in new unemployment claims from the week prior.There were 10,314 new unemployment claims filed in Maryland for the week of April 10. That s up from 9,612 the week prior.The Maryland Department of Labor reports unemployment claims by type: Regular or pandemic related assistance (PUA and PEUC). There were 8,411 regular claims and 1,903 PUA and PEUC claims. The DOL said there was an average of 2,592 new unemployment claims per week in Maryland between Dec. 28, 2019, and March 7, 2020. The DOL has launched an interactive unemployment claims database in which the numbers are broken down by industry, occupation, jurisdiction and ZIP code. Police and a rescue helicopter were deployed after a man fell down a bank and activated his personal locator beacon whilst in the Kaweka Forest Park on Monday morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the activation about 11.50am.
A Police spokeswoman said the man managed to get himself out and is not injured. ....

Alexandria was where the Bible was translated from Hebrew into Greek and where Euclid wrote his treatise on geometry.
