Honolulu City Council Adopts Resolution To Improve Race Data Collection - Honolulu Civil Beat

The Honolulu City Council approved a resolution on Wednesday urging city and state agencies to disaggregate racial and ethnic data beyond the federal minimum level.
“We are simply recommending that all county and state agencies disaggregate racial and ethnic data relating to Asian and Pacific Islanders so that we can enforce civil rights laws to monitor equal access in health, housing, education and other areas,” Kia‘aina said. “And allow for the creation of policy to address underlying disparities in such areas.” ....

To unite the eastern and western sections of the railroad, Central Pacific hired roughly 15,000 Chinese laborers who each shoveled 20 pounds of rock over 400 times a day to complete the Summit Tunnel at Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Despite their backbreaking labor, when the two great railroads were united at Promontory Point, Utah, M.Y. Lee and his compatriots were excluded from the historic ceremony commemorating the union of East and West.

May marks the start of Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and to highlight the milestones the community has achieved, FOX Business correspondent Susan Li acknowledged some of the unfortunate, yet rich, history each culture has overcome.
The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community have come a long way, each with their own cultural distinctions, but all contributing to America s long, colorful history, Li told Fox & Friends.
