Express News Service PUDUCHERRY: Four private laboratories in Puducherry were found carrying out unauthorised COVID-19 tests as well as overcharging patients. Also, they did not report COVID-19 cases to the Health Department. Following this, Director of Health Dr S Mohan Kumar has written to the District Collector cum District Magistrate Purva Garg recommending action against these laboratories. An inspection by a team of health officials found that four laboratories Selvan Clinical Laboratory on Thiyagaraja Street, Red Clinical Lab and ECG, Kavery Nagar, Reddiarpalayam, East Coast Hospitals, Moolakulam and M S Diagnosite Laboratory at Lawspet collected throat swabs for Covid testing at a much higher cost than the rates fixed by the government. ....
Expressing concern over the rise in number of coronavirus cases, Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday sought the cooperation of the public in containing the spread of COVID-19. Addressing reporters after visiting the Corona War room here, she advised youths to be wary of the virulent nature of the second wave of the pandemic and stay indoors. Government alone cannot function and discharge safety measures without the cooperation of the public to combat the virulent disease. Covid-19 in the current second wave is very ferocious and lethal and hence all, and more particularly the youth, should play a proactive role, she said. ....

Notified containment zones go up to 451, says Collector Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The district administration has increased the number of notified containment zones in Puducherry region to 451 and constituted measures to reach assistance to home isolation patients and to curb movement of people in these areas. This represents a marked increase from the 266 micro containment zones in the region as of May 9. District Collector Purva Garg told a press conference that so far 159 containment zones had been declared in Puducherry taluk, 156 containment zones in Oulgaret taluk, 90 in Villianur taluk and 46 in Bahour taluk. Officials have been appointed to monitor the containment zones. The flying squads constituted by the Revenue Department apart from the beat police are inspecting the containment zone on a regular basis. ....
