What prompted you to make a movie to contribute towards COVID relief for film workers? Mani Ratnam: Jayendra and I go back a long way. We have done a few fundraising activities for social causes. When the pandemic struck, he called and said we should do something about it. We looked at this as an opportunity to generate enough funds to actually make a difference and not just a token one. Jayendra Panchapakesan: See, we wanted to involve as many people as possible from the industry and do a joint industry initiative to raise enough funds to give it to the workers. We had set ourselves a target of 15crore and we are somewhere close. What we wanted to do was have a mechanism that reaches the workers directly. We are working with the Bhoomika Trust and have issued individual credit cards and vouchers for all the workers. Each card is loaded with Rs1500 every month. The best part is that it can be used only in grocery stores. So, the benefit goes to the family of the worker mon ....
