Happy Axe | PBS FM

This week s feature album Maybe It ll Be Beautiful is the second release from Melbourne-based violinist, vocalist and composer Emma Kelly under their moniker Happy Axe. Emma is becoming a prolific collaborator lending her beautiful string arrangments to the new Big Scary album, and her voice to the Mindy Meng Wang and Tim Shiel EP. On this album, Emma allicites the support of fellow Melbourne musicians Braille Face, Butternut Sweetheart, Aphir and Arrom, plus the mixing expertise of Tim Shiel.  The music of Happy Axe is dream-pop in the truest sense. The roots are deep in the ground, head and shoulders are in the clouds. The album s gentle but generous charm reflects Emma s own curious and compassionate nature, and each song s rich sound palette - of found sounds, strings & things - provides the perfect foil for Emma s light but deeply captivating voice.

Events: BUTTERNUT SWEETHEART W/ BARES — Triple R 102 7FM, Melbourne Independent Radio

Next up in the bandroom, we have Butternut Sweetheart taking to the stage on Saturday March 13th for an afternoon of their ‘post apocalyptic underwater indie’. Butternut Sweetheart is the project of Melbourne based producer and multi instrumentalist, Luke Moseley. Since their debut EP in 2019, Moseley and his band have been crafting their own brand of intricate and alluring indie-rock, and have garnered acclaim from Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill (“pulled me in, sucked me under and then I floated away with it”) and Declan Byrne (“new Butternut Sweetheart reels you in with that moving push pull and lush production and it s a swirling ride that i had to go in on a few times in a row”), and received radio play around the country.
