GRANTS PASS, Ore. Grants Pass School District students from kindergarten through fifth grade returned to in-person instruction this week.
Rachel Sorenson, a first-grade teacher at Parkside Elementary, says their focus right now is getting students reacquainted with the safety rules and procedures.
This includes wearing face masks and staying six feet away from each other inside the classroom.
Sorenson says her students couldn’t wait to be back in class. ....

AUSTIN, Texas Laney Suman cares about her classmates at Parkside Elementary school. She goes out of her way to make sure the other students know that if they need a friend, she is there.
I really want them to feel the way I feel with friendships and knowing how to ask for help, Suman said.
Suman also understands how to help. She organized a pop-tab collection at her school to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The pop-tabs are recycled by the Ronald McDonald House and the money goes toward families that need assistance. Suman s drive brought in more than 50 pounds of pop-tabs. ....

Norfolk Public Schools: 2 million free meals given since start of pandemic

NORFOLK, Va. Norfolk Public Schools announced it hit a major milestone on Friday.
The division says it has given out two million free meals since schools shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic.
We re told the Department of School Nutrition has served 32,000 Grab and Go meals every day. Employees prepare and pack-up breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack, for any kid who needs one.
Meals are distributed each weekday from 3 to 5 p.m. at 34 different school cafeterias across the city. Meals can be picked up at any open school. Parents who are picking up meals for students should be prepared to provide the student’s lunch ID information, as well as the school in which they are enrolled. ....
