Base Camp, Mount Everest, April 25, 2015, about noon: A tremendous boom echoes through the air, the ground heaves and a wall-like cloud of snow propelled by an avalanche advances toward the tents. Mountaineers scatter, diving into tents to avoid the blast. One mountaineer has a video camera and captures the whole thing, as he curses and dives into a tent while the cloud of snow engulfs him. He survives, but 19 others perish. This firsthand account of the Gorkha quake is now famous, caught on camera and posted to YouTube. ....

Earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale hit Sonitpur
GUWAHATI: As Assam continued to feel aftershocks after last week’s earthquake, IIT-Guwahati has said seismic microzonation of urban areas should be carried out and the earthquake-resistant design must be strictly enforced in the state as it comes under zone 5, the seismic risk in the present day situation is very high, and the degree of damage due to both primary and secondary effects with multiple hazards taking place simultaneously, would be very high.
Seismic microzoning provides detailed information on earthquake hazards on a much larger scale.
Sonitpur, whose headquarters Tezpur was rocked first by a strong tremor magnitude of 6.4 at 7.51 am on Wednesday, and its nearby areas on both sides of the Brahmaputra in central Assam have experienced 23 aftershocks.
