Following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the State and a month-long lockdown, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has announced that it would provide 10 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat for free to each member of families belonging to the BPL category. This will be done for May and June.
Officials in the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies said the Centre has allotted extra rice to the State for providing an additional 5 kg of rice per person belonging to BPL families under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for May and June. ....

New Zealand s housing crisis continues to stagnate efforts to slash child poverty, the latest data shows.
The Government today released two child wellbeing reports, holding it to account on measures introduced in 2018 to reduce child poverty.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who is Minister for Child Poverty Reduction, said the reports highlighted most children and young people in New Zealand were doing well, with many improvements in key measures. ....

Rubirizi District locals have decried the continued poor services at Rugazi Health Centre IV.
The district, which was carved out of Bushenyi in 2010, has one health centre IV in Bunyaruguru County, which serves about 140,000 people.
“I brought here my son who was suffering from malaria two days ago but they told me that there were no drugs and they advised me to buy them from clinics before they could treat my son,” Mr Ismail Kanzara, a resident, said on Monday.
“After buying drugs for my son’s treatment, I was left with no money but health workers wanted money to treat him so I decided to give them my wife’s national identity card so that they can treat my son as I look for money,” Mr Kanzara said. ....
