Tampa port leaders: Cruises likely won’t return until fall, maybe even 2022
The port had budgeted for cruise ships to return in a very limited capacity by April.
 
 
Carnival Cruise Line has announced that its ship Paradise, shown here in 2019, will be dry-docked through October. Paradise called Port Tampa Bay home. Port officials said Feb. 16 that they do not anticipate cruise ships returning to Tampa until this fall at the earliest.
A new reality is sinking in for the cruise business at Port Tampa Bay.
Port officials said Tuesday that they do not expect cruise ships to be back in Tampa until at least the fall, a shift from projections that one or more could return this spring. ....

Key West prepares for cruise ship bill fight


With the stage set for state legislators to begin discussing a proposed bill that would prevent Key West from controlling its own seaport, city officials are beginning to consider what they would do if they could no longer limit cruise ship visits.
The original state Senate Bill 426 removing “home rule” for all Florida seaports, instead giving that power to state authorities, recently found a companion bill, House Bill 267, which begins the formal process of committee hearings in preparation for the March 2 opening of the annual legislative session. The state Senate Transportation Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Feb. 16, to begin discussing SB 426. ....
