Ron DeSantis has signed the online sales tax bill into law, answering the question of whether he would act on the bill or let it roll into law without his John Hancock.
Lawmakers
passed the bill earlier this month, finalizing Republican legislative leadership’s plan to require online retailers to collect sales tax. An estimated $1 billion in revenue would come from the new enforcement of sales taxes technically already owed on purchases Floridians make from out-of-state sellers, but which few Floridians pay. ....

Florida is just one of two states that does not require out of state retailers to collect the sales tax on items sent to the state, but a compromise will end the isolation.
The measure is expected to bring in as much as $1.3 billion in its first year and the new cash will be used to offset higher unemployment taxes on businesses.
Florida’s unemployment trust fund was a healthy $4 billion at the beginning of last year.
Last week it sat at $652 million.
“Florida businesses are facing an extremely large automatic increase in unemployment taxes,” said Rep. Chuck Clemons. ....

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Senate Finance and Tax Committee approved a bill Thursday requiring out-of-state retailers to collect sales tax on internet purchases.
Economists estimate it will bring in more than $1 billion a year, but a new twist being added means the extra cash won’t go toward solving the pandemic created budget shortfall.
Florida is one of only two states that don’t require out-of-state retailers to collect the sales tax due from online purchases.
“We’re down to Missouri and Florida,” said Grace Lovett with the Florida Retail Federation. ....
