5 drink drivers and where they were caught in County Durham


Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Courts
THE following cases were heard at Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe Magistrates  Courts in the last week.
ANNA MEREDITH HUDSON, 40, of Halton Road, Newton Hall, was banned from driving for 36 months after being caught behind the wheel whilst over the legal drink drive limit. The incident took place on June 14, on the A167 at Durham. A road side breath test showed 140mg of alcohol in her breath. The legal limit is 35mg. She pleaded guilty and was given a community order, made to pay £95 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
SHEREECE LARGE, 26, of Cavendish Close, Darlington, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was banned for 25 months. On June 4, she was caught on North Road driving under the influence of alcohol. A road side breath test showed 100mg of alcohol in her breath. Large was fined £200, made to pay £34 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. ....

THE following cases were heard at Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Courts in the last week.
BEN TRUSWELL, from Hartlepool, assaulted a woman by beating her on January 17, 2021. The 19-year-old pleaded guilty and was discharged conditionally for 12 months. Truswell, from Telford Close, was ordered to pay £22 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
NATHAN LEWIS PRENDERGAST, 27, beat two police officers in Darlington, on January 18, 2020. The Albery Place, Darlington resident, changed his plea to guilty and was given a 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months. He was ordered to pay £30 compensation.
GARY NICHOLSON, 46, of Lime Grove, Shildon, beat a man in Shildon on December 2, 2020. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service and given a £34 victim surcharge fee. ....

Public Notices: Highcliffe Recreation Ground to be transferred to Parish Council


A BOURNEMOUTH recreation ground and two play areas will be transferred to the Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council.
BCP Council confirmed in a public notice that Highcliffe Recreation Ground in Lymington Road, along with the two play areas at Bluebell Close and Mudeford Wood would be transferred to the parish council.
The notice said: “BCP Council is proposing to transfer the whole of the Highcliffe Recreation Ground, Lymington Road, Highcliffe together with the two play areas at Bluebell Close and Mudeford Wood, Pipers Drive, Highcliffe to the Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council.
“The intention is that these areas will continue to be used as a recreation ground and play areas, but the parish council will be responsible for these areas instead of BCP Council. ....

Financier 'conned leading anti-apartheid activist who became Commonwealth diplomat out of £1.1m'


Maurice Miskelly, 62, allegedly swindled the fortune from Jamaican activist Patsy Robertson.
Ms Robertson served as Director of Information for the Commonwealth Secretariat and Official Spokesperson for the Commonwealth between 1983 and 1994.
Described as charming and eloquent , she died from heart failure, aged 86, in August last year. 
According to the charges, Miskelly duped the ambassador into handing over the money by pretending he would invest it on her behalf in ‘property schemes’ between August 2014 and September 2014.
He is also accused of defrauding her daughter, Sarah Robertson, a literary translator, out of £218,000 between December 2014 and March 2016.
