Trainers To Debut In Meadowlands Pace | Standardbred Canada

Eddie Dennis usually remains quiet when watching his horses compete. But as Hellabalou charged down the stretch on his way to an 81-1 upset in his Meadowlands Pace elimination last Saturday, the trainer made an exception.
“I don’t ever holler for a horse, but I hollered for him the other night,” Dennis said with a laugh. “It was a nice treat. We thought we could make the final. We didn’t realize we might maybe have that big of a shot to win.
“He just responded. That’s him. If he’s in that position and he’s healthy and everything is going his way, he responds. He likes to pass horses when he’s on his game. He knows what that’s all about.” ....

USHWA Hosts $500 Handicapping Contest | Standardbred Canada

The United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA) has combined resources with several of the leading people and organizations in the industry to co-sponsor the USHWA/Scott Alberg’s monthly handicapping contests on Facebook.
The next event is this Saturday (July 17), the Meadowlands Pace, and features the overall first-place prize winner netting $500 in cash. The second- and third-place finishers will also receive special prizes. The contest has no entry fee.
Many thanks to the Tony Alagna Stable for sponsoring this week’s cash prize.
To collect the cash, entrants must select the winner of the Meadowlands Pace. The contest commences when the judges supply the official race results, which will be posted on Alberg’s Facebook page on Thursday. Contestants need to choose the winner either by their name or post position number. ....

One week ago, Walner sired six of the seven divisional winners of the opening leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotters at The Meadowlands, and the sport’s newest super sire stayed sizzling hot Friday night, as five of his progeny reigned supreme in the six $25,000 NJSS leg two events at The Big M.
Four Walner babies stayed unbeaten in two NJSS attempts, beginning with Temporal Hanover ($7.00 to win as the second choice), a colt who scored from just off the pace for driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Marcus Melander in a lifetime-best 1:54.1.
“The [Walner babies] are smart and have tons of speed,” said Tetrick. “He’s real handy, super nice and likes his work. He surged down the lane and was really impressive.” ....
