On Thursday, May 20, elected officials, local business and nonprofit leaders and Pullman-area community members convened to mark the official grand opening of the Pullman Artspace Lofts development at S. Langley Aveune and E. 112th Street. After nearly a decade of planning and construction, the development is notable for being the first multifamily development in Pullman in 60 years, stakeholders said.
The formal completion of the Artspace Lofts comes as the Pullman neighborhood has witnessed a noticeable uptick in new development and investment over the last several years. A handful of major industrial developments have brought new jobs and big names to the far south side neighborhood and an overhaul of the former Pullman Company Administrative Building and Clock Tower by the National Pa ....

Trenzando/Braiding is a sculpture that recognizes the intertwined histories of the
US and Guatemala, and the role of economics in genocide. Lisa Gordillo, associate professor of visual and performing arts
Trenzando/Braiding considers the history of US intervention in Guatemala and US complicity in Guatemala’s
genocide while reflecting more generally on international cultures of violence. The
sculpture is made of 20 units formed into a grid. Textile braids rest on wooden supports,

Far from incidental, the designation acknowledges America’s first company-created community and honors the role of all Pullman rail employees in America’s labor movement.
But it is the Pullman Porters that beckon history’s spotlight. Still working over 20 hours a day for the worst pay after initial labor reform, the African American porters were excluded by workers’ unions.
