MMEA detains Liberian registered tanker for allegedly anchoring illegally in Perak

The Perak state division of Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Saturday (13 March) said it detained a Liberian flagged tanker for allegedly anchoring without a permit on Friday, 12 March.
“The vessel was discovered 30.2 nautical miles southeast of Pulau Jarak at 16.15 by the APMM Subang Air Station’s patrol team who then notified us of the vessel behaving suspiciously,” said Maritime Captain Shahrizan bin Raman, Director, MMEA Perak.
MMEA said it suspects the vessel is on its way from Chittagong to Singapore. 
Maritime Captain Shahrizan noted there were 19 crew onboard who were a mix of Malaysians, Russians, Liberians and Ukrainians aged between 30 to 65 years. ....

4:15 PM on Friday, the MMEA said in a statement published on Saturday. 
The arrest was for anchoring without a permit. The authorities found the vessel
30.2 nautical miles to the south-east of
Pulau Jarak, apparently carrying no cargo, and they suspected the vessel was on its way from
Chittagong to
Singapore, the MMEA said.
19 crew of Malaysian, Russian, Liberian and Ukrainian nationality were on board and were arrested for further investigation, the organisation said.

MMEA arrests four Indonesians caught fishing in Malaysian waters


IPOH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has arrested four Indonesian fishermen for encroaching and fishing illegally in Malaysian waters.
Perak MMEA director Captain Shahrizan Raman said the four men were spotted fishing in their boat some 16 nautical miles from Pulau Jarak, Lumut at about 5.40pm on Saturday (Feb 6).
Shahrizan said all four men did not have any identification documents.
All of them were detained at the Kampung Bharu vessel detention centre on Saturday. They will be handed over to the investigating officer for further action, he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 7)
Shahrizan said for the offence under the Fisheries Act of fishing in Malaysian waters without the permit of the Fisheries Department director-general, the boat s captain could be fined up to RM6mil. ....
