Chennai Corporation raises park for cancer patients Updated: Updated: It is designed to help patients cope with depression and anxiety Share Article It is designed to help patients cope with depression and anxiety The Greater Chennai Corporation has developed a park for cancer patients on the banks of the Buckingham Canal near the Cancer Institute in Adyar. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated the park on Thursday through video-conferencing. The civic body will launch 58 parks with various themes shortly. Officials said the park behind the Cancer Institute was spread over 4,255 sq m in ward 175 of Adyar zone. PWD land The park has been developed on Public Works Department land. A government order was issued to allow the Corporation to raise the park at an estimated cost of ₹1.29 crore. The park has a play area for children and pre-cast concrete benches, said an official.

She was 93. Shanta was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Chennai. In his condolence tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Dr V Shanta will be remembered for her outstanding efforts to ensure top quality cancer care. The Cancer Institute at Adyar, Chennai, is at the forefront of serving the poor and downtrodden. I recall my visit to the Institute in 2018. Saddened by Dr V Shanta’s demise. Om Shanti.”

Cancer Institute, Adyar Chairperson Dr V Shanta passes away

CHENNAI: Padma Vibhushan Dr V Shanta, Chairperson, Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar died on Monday, hospital sources said. The senior oncologist is said to have suffered a massive heart attack on Monday night. Official sources in the hospital said that Dr Shanta complained of mild discomfort on Monday evening. She was rushed to Apollo Hospital after she developed breathing difficulty.   But the treatment didn t help, and she passed away at 3.35 am, the source said. She is renowned for her service in the field of cancer care.  Her body has been moved to the old building cancer Institute in Gandhi Nagar. Dr Shanta will be laid to rest in Besant Nagar at 4.30 pm.
