This prestigious AACR scientific achievement award was established to recognize an early career investigator for achievements in basic cancer research. Navin was selected for his seminal contributions to the understanding of genome evolution and intratumor heterogeneity in breast cancer and for his invention of single-cell DNA sequencing, which has impacted many diverse fields of biology and biomedicine and has directly contributed to the establishment of the single cell genomics field.

THE Makna Cancer Research Award (MCRA) commemorated its 19th year of encouraging young Malaysian scientists in cancer research.
This year, MCRA held a virtual ceremony to award six recipients with research grants amounting RM30,000 each to fund their cancer studies.
The selection of the recipients was conducted by a distinguished panel headed by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) fellow, Prof Dr Cheong Sok Ching, alongside other prominent ASM fellows.
Dr Saiful Effendi (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Dr Armania Nurdin (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and Hii Ling Wei (International Medical University) are recipients of the MCRA 2019 Award.
