KL Tower, Putrajaya lit up in blue and orange for World Cancer Day on Thursday (Feb 4)

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): KL Tower, together with several buildings in Putrajaya will be lit up with the World Cancer Day campaign theme colours of orange and blue to pledge their support to global initiatives and awareness efforts. National Cancer Council Malaysia (Makna) general manager Farahida Mohd Farid said this year, Makna has teamed up with the iconic tower and buildings in Putrajaya including the Prime Minister’s office, Seri Wawasan Bridge, Putrajaya Corporation, Palace of Justice and the Seri Gemilang Bridge for the one-night special event.

Supporting local cancer studies

THE Makna Cancer Research Award (MCRA) commemorated its 19th year of encouraging young Malaysian scientists in cancer research. This year, MCRA held a virtual ceremony to award six recipients with research grants amounting RM30,000 each to fund their cancer studies. The selection of the recipients was conducted by a distinguished panel headed by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) fellow, Prof Dr Cheong Sok Ching, alongside other prominent ASM fellows. Dr Saiful Effendi (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Dr Armania Nurdin (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and Hii Ling Wei (International Medical University) are recipients of the MCRA 2019 Award.
