Bandits Raid Niger Village, Kill One, Injure Another

Laleye Dipo Bandits in the early hours of yesterday killed one person and injured another in Yakila village of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. The bandits also abducted five villagers and rustled unspecified number of cows. Those injured during the sporadic shooting by the bandits were reported to have been admitted at the Wushishi General Hospital. THISDAY was informed that the villager killed was Hamza Boka, while his brother, who was injured, is Jibrin Boka. Those abducted, according to the eyewitnesses, are Dada Jatau, Idris Adamu, Mai- angwa Rimi, Mallam Mamba, and an unnamed villager. It was gathered that the rustled cattle belonged to Alhaji Jatau Gora and Buba Mohammed.

General Abubakar, who is the Chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), chaired a meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2021, which brought together stakeholders, like former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad 111, Bishop Matthew Kukah, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Metropolitan Archbishop Emeritus, Abuja Catholic Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi; Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong; Chairman of Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Malam Kabiru Yusuf, religious leaders,  the service chiefs and several other dignitaries.

Obasanjo, Gumi deplore colouration of insecurity, canvass special courts for bandits, kidnappers

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi have urged the Federal Government to create special courts to “deal promptly with cases of banditry, kidnapping, ransom demands and unlawful carrying of weapons.” During a closed-door meeting yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, they also agreed that, “hardened criminals must be hard hit with stick while imploring government to punish anybody illegally carrying arms in the country. Both leaders, in a communiqué issued at the end of parley, traced the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria to “educational and economic disparities, as well as negative use of religion and ethnicity by unscrupulous politicians.”

Daily Post Nigeria Published Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Sheikh Ahmad Gumi have recommended solutions to the security challenges facing the nation. DAILY POST reports that Gumi, who has been negotiating with bandits in the North, visited Obasanjo on Sunday with a delegation of eight persons. They are: Prof. Usman Yusuf, Mallam Tukur Mamu, Dr. Umar Ardo, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, Honourable Suleiman Gumi, Alhaji Suleiman Yakubu and Mallam Buba Mohammed. Chief Obasanjo received Sheikh Gumi and his delegation in the presence of Oba Babajide Bakre, Agura of Gbagura, Abeokuta; Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya, Chairman of Ogun State Christian Association of Nigeria; Sheikh Sa’addallah Alade Bamigbola, Chief Imam of Egbaland; Chief Kenny Martins, Chief Ola Babajide Jaiyeoba; Rev. Tony Ojeshina, Chief Imams of Oke-Ona, Gbagura, Owu and Mr. Vitalis Ortese.
