MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain said he began an internal investigation into the death of Ronald Frederick Apgar, 39, over the weekend. According to Cain, Apgar died suddenly of causes that will be determined after an autopsy. (AP) A Mississippi man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the 2018 stabbing deaths of his wife and stepdaughter. Walter Simpson, 47, was sentenced Tuesday by Madison County Circuit Judge Steve Ratliff. A jury on Oct. 29 convicted Simpson of two counts of murder, one count of arson and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In addition to life without parole for each of the murder convictions, Simpson was sentenced to 20 years for arson and 10 years for the gun charge, District Attorney Bubba Bramlett said in a news release. ....

According to Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett, DeShawn Douglas, 18, was released on $75,000 bond. Bramlett tells WAPT that once bail is posted there is no preliminary hearing and the case is bound over to await action of the grand jury.
