 On Dec. 15, New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer called on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to open an investigation into Tyson Foods Inc. for making misleading disclosures to investors, including the New York City Retirement Systems, regarding its worker health and safety protections, and resulting risks, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Tyson’s slow and minimal pandemic response and the resulting infections, hospitalizations, and deaths among its workforce are well-documented; however, Tyson’s annual disclosure paints an inaccurate and misleading picture of the company’s safety culture and its claims that it continue ....

NYC comptroller calls on SEC to investigate Tyson Foods

New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer is calling for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Tyson Foods for making misleading disclosures to investors by flagrantly misrepresenting its poor pandemic response. Stringer asked for the probe in a letter sent to the SEC Tuesday. 
As comptroller, Stringer is investment advisor and a trustee of the five New York City Retirement Systems, which are substantial long-term Tyson shareholders. He said the company s 10-K form was misleading and inaccurate because it didn t assure investors that issues reported earlier this year are a thing of the past.  
Early on in the pandemic, Tyson and other major meat companies were criticized for waiting too long to implement safety precautions and to close processing plants as thousands tested positive for coronavirus. A Tyson spokesperson said in an email that the company has not yet reviewed Stringer s documentation, but referred to a release ....

Tyson Foods on Wednesday fired seven managers at its Waterloo pork processing plant following an investigation into allegations that managers and supervisors made bets on the number of workers who would be sickened by the coronavirus.
Arkansas-based Tyson last month hired former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate the gaming allegations after they were raised in wrongful death lawsuits filed by families of workers at the plant who died of COVID-19.
The managers alleged betting scheme occurred early in the pandemic as the coronavirus began tearing through the Waterloo plant, where about 1,000 of 2,800 workers tested positive for it in early May. ....

TSN) - Get Report traded lower Tuesday after the New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate the meat processor for allegedly misrepresenting its slow and minimal response to the coronavirus to its investors.
