Stansbury, Heinrich, Luján Secure Over $10 Million for Community Projects


U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and
 Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) announced they secured over $10 million dollars for Community Funded Projects across the First Congressional District. The funding was requested by the Congresswoman on her first day in office with input from New Mexico’s senators. Here is a statement from the office of Rep. Stansbury:
This week, the House will vote on annual spending bills with key provisions to authorize these projects for New Mexico. The bills will then move to the Senate for consideration.

NM Black Voters Collaborative holds forum for CD-1 candidates

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  The New Mexico Black Voters Colaborative will be hosting a livestreamed forum with the state s CD-1 candidates Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
Democrat Representative Melanie Stansbury, Independent Aubrey Dunn, Libertarian Chris Manning and Republican Mark Moores all have their eyes on the seat. The special election is coming up on on June 1.
They all seem really qualified for the position, and we re just looking forward to learning more about what changes they would make and how they would be an effective representative of New Mexico CD-1,” said Mason Graham, a member with the NMBVC. “The main goal of this event is really to be able to ask some of the harder questions about issues that are very relevant right now in New Mexico, and in the entire country. ....

Black leaders call for public apology from GOP, claiming racism

Leaders of Black communities and organizations in New Mexico are asking for public apologies and stronger condemnation of recent remarks and actions by Republican lawmakers that dozens of African Americans say represent long-standing systemic racism in the Roundhouse.
Earlier this month during a confirmation hearing, Senate Minority Leader Greg Baca, R-Belen, questioned Cabinet nominee Sonya Smith’s ability to represent New Mexicans while leading the Department of Veterans Services as a Black woman.
“Do you expect after your time here over the years, that you’ve been immersed in this culture enough in this state? That you feel comfortable entering a position where we’re a state with 2.6 percent of the population is African American in this state. And 48 percent is Hispanic or Hispanic mix?” Baca asked. “Do you feel like, like you can, like you are comfortable adequately representing both, both ....
