Volkswagen is thinking about creating a convertible version of the ID.3 hatch. The German car manufacturer has its hands full at the moment readying a plethora of ID-branded electric vehicles but its designers have found some spare time to sketch out an ID.3 Convertible. Images of the car were shared on social media by both Volkswagen Group chief executive Herbert Diess and chief executive officer of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Ralf Brandstätter. In a LinkedIn post, Brandstätter wrote, “An ID.3 convertible? Sounds quite appealing: enjoying nature with the top down, with the instant, but silent electric punch. This could provide an entirely new, extraordinary feeling of freedom. I admit: a very tempting idea. We are still pondering how to turn this attractive concept into reality. Just in case, our design team has already sketched out some initial ideas.” ....
The boss of Volkswagen isn’t concerned with Apple’s plans to venture into the car industry. Word about an Apple car has been swirling for years but reached fever pitch in December 2020 when it was reported that work on the vehicle was ramping up with the goal of it hitting the market by 2024. Despite the possibility of the world’s most valuable company making a car, VW chief executive Herbert Diess isn’t concerned. “The car industry is not a typical tech-sector that you could take over at a single stroke,” Diess said in a recent interview with German newspaper ....
