Scott Morrison has warned against rushing to conclusions after the death of a person in NSW who reportedly developed blood clots a day after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
The 48-year-old woman was a diabetic, the ABC reports, and preliminary tests have not found a conclusive link to the vaccination.
The prime minister on Thursday night said the woman s death was still being investigated by state and federal authorities.
I think there is a lot more to understand and learn about that issue and I would caution others in making conclusions about this at this point as well, he told reporters near Newman in Western Australia s Pilbara region. ....

On Thursday, the federal government said it no longer recommended people under 50 get AstraZeneca vaccines.
The blood clotting disorders being investigated in connection with the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine are very rare and differ from common blood clots or venous thromboembolism, which occur in around 50 Australians every day, the TGA said.

RIO DE JANEIRO Brazil s Supreme Court says coronavirus vaccination can be made mandatory, delivering a blow to the nation s nascent anti-vaccine movement.
However, the court also says Brazilians may not be vaccinated against their will. A court statement says Thursday s ruling does pave the way for state and municipal governments to approve laws imposing fines or restrictive measures for anyone refusing to take a vaccine.
President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly said he will not take any vaccine and opposes mandatory immunization. He has also sown skepticism about potential side effects.
Opinion polls have indicated a growing resistance to vaccination, with about one-fifth of Brazilians surveyed by pollster Datafolha this month saying they don t intend to get a shot. That is more than double the percentage four months earlier. ....

9 & 10 News
December 17, 2020
WASHINGTON A second COVID-19 vaccine is moving closer to joining the U.S. fight against the pandemic.
A panel of independent experts is meeting Thursday to discuss the vaccine made by Moderna. The panel’s review for the Food and Drug Administration is the next-to-last step before the agency decides whether the shots can be used on an emergency basis. The FDA staff issued a positive review earlier in the week, confirming the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.
If the panel gives a thumbs-up, the FDA is expected to give the green light within hours or days. A Pfizer vaccine got the go-ahead last week. ....
