QCELL, SIERRATEL boycott Cyber Crime Bill discussion : Sierra Leone Concord Times

Qcell Sierra Leone and SIERRATEL management yesterday boycotted the discussion and enactment of Cyber Crime laws.
The reasons for their absence were neither explained to the media nor to the public.
The All People’s Congress opposition Whip, Hon. Hassan Sesay, told members that the proposed bill is very important to punish criminals who commit serious crimes related to hacking, online harassment, data theft, disruption of online workflow of any enterprise, and attacking another individual or website among others.
He expressed worried as to why Qcell and SIERRATEL could not make themselves available for the hearing. ....

Five Other Texts Adopted, Including One Encouraging Strengthening Kimberly Process for Removing Conflict Diamonds from Global Supply Chain
The General Assembly adopted six draft resolutions today, including one by a recorded vote that underscored cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
By a recorded vote of 109 in favour to 3 against (China, Russian Federation, Syria), with 11 abstentions, it adopted the draft resolution titled “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons” (document A/75/L.56).
By doing so, it noted with appreciation OPCW’s ongoing efforts to implement the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction.  Among other things, it also took note of the decision of the OPCW Executive Council on 9 July 2020 tit ....

Cyber Diplomacy Act aims to elevate America's global cybersecurity standing

On February 23, 2021, a bipartisan group of leading Congress members introduced the Cyber Diplomacy Act of 2021. Jim Langevin (D-RI), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee s Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems, and Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), the Republican lead on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, are top sponsors of the legislation.
The bill, which revives legislation introduced during the last two Congresses, establishes an Office of International Cyberspace Policy within the State Department. It also aims to promote American international leadership on cybersecurity, a primary goal of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, which Langevin co-chairs. ....
