Three flavours – Luxury Truffle & Pecorino, Rose Harissa and Smoked Chilli – have debuted in Waitrose Belazu, the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ingredient supplier, has ventured into the premium snacking category for the first time with three new nut mixes. Luxury Truffle & Pecorino Nut Mix, Rose Harissa Nut Mix and Smoked Chilli Nut Mix have debuted in Waitrose. The move follows research by the brand which identified a “gap in the market for premium and indulgent nuts that are full of flavour”. The range comprises: Luxury Truffle & Pecorino, combining white truffle and pecorino Romano cheese with cashews, pecans and macadamias (rsp: £4.95/130g); Rose Harissa, featuring whole cashews, almonds and peanuts spiced with cumin and chilli (rsp: £3.85/135g); and Smoked Chilli, a premium selection of whole cashews, almonds and corn roasted with ground and whole flakes of smoked paprika, cayenne and bird’s eye chillies (rsp: £3.85/120g). ....

The landmark Cape Town hotel reopened its food and beverage offerings this week, operating with a reduced staff component. Business Insider South Africa had reported in August that with few overseas guests, the Mount Nelson Hotel would likely retrench more than half its 251 staff. It quoted a hotel letter, dated June 29, stating that a formal retrenchment process to let go of 154 employees was under consideration. Before the axe fell in August, says Dion Vengatass, “Sven (Adams) was production, Llew (Llewellyn Hurter) was breakfast and lunch, Craig (Hibbert) was pastry, while I was chef du cuisine in the main kitchen.” The four worked closely with executive chef Rudi Liebenberg. ....
