New Hampshire gets first PFAS testing lab located in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH PFAS, a growing environmental threat, has become an opportunity for Absolute Research Associates in Portsmouth.
With accreditation from the state in April 2020, ARA became the only lab in New Hampshire to offer on-site and in-state testing of environmental samples for PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that ARA president Sue Sylvester called “an emerging contaminant.”
Since 2000, ARA has provided environmental testing and consulting services, including certified laboratory services, indoor air quality services, and environmental project management related to contamination or suspected contamination of water, soil, and indoor air. U.S. Sen. Shaheen PFAS amendment included in water infrastructure bill

PORTSMOUTH – The Senate overwhelmingly passed a national drinking water infrastructure bill Thursday, which included a PFAS-related amendment drafted by U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
The Senate voted 89-2 to pass the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021, which will now move to the U.S. House of Representatives for approval.
The comprehensive drinking water and wastewater infrastructure package will increase economic growth, enhance the health and well-being of American families and prioritize environmental concerns, Shaheen’s office said.
Shaheen’s bipartisan amendment, which was included in the legislation, calls for modifying the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Assistance for Small and Disadvantaged Communities program to allow states to assist more households, including those who rely on private wells, impacted by dangerous contaminants such as PFAS.  ....

Testing For Pease seeking adults and kids for PFAS health study

PORTSMOUTH – Members of the Pease Community Assistance Panel will be putting up lawn signs and distributing brochures on Saturday to boost enrollment in the first federal health study on adults and children exposed to dangerous PFAS chemicals.
Pease CAP member Andrea Amico said the volunteers are participating in the initiative to “raise awareness about the health study and hopefully increase enrollment in it.”
Amico, who co-founded the Testing For Pease community activist group, stressed how important it is for adults – and their children – to participate in the study.
“We can’t undo our exposure and we can’t change how we might be affected by that, but we can learn from this situation and we can contribute to the science on health effects,” Amico said. “The study is important not only for our Pease community, but also to millions of Americans across the country who are dealing with the same contamination but don’t have the opportunity to be part ....
